Bio:
Grace Kromah is a black female photographer who employs digital image making and film photography, supplemented by darkroom alternative processes, screen printing and writing in her work. She is currently working toward her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is the recipient of the Contemporary Practices Scholarship in 2017 at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago Merit Scholarship the year before that. At the School of the art Institute Grace was a part of many group shows during her time there she was in shows like Take Root Among the stars: The Legacy of Octavia Butler, Surviving the 21st Century and Beyond in 2018. She is a second generation U.S. citizen with a strong Liberian heritage. Grace’s art practice explores themes such as family trauma, historical trauma, immigration, Liberian culture, being a black woman in America and the African diaspora. Her goal is to tell her story, narrate her past life experiences, and illustrate recurring memories through analog portraits and self-portraits.
